Thousands of people of all ages thronged on Saturday the Circus Maximus in Rome for a prayer vigil before the beatification of the late Pope John Paul II.
"I feel your presence here, I feel strong," cried the Polish Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, for over 40 years the private secretary to Karol Wojtyla
The cardinal, who accompanied him to his death on April 2, 2005, before the crowd was quiet and respectful that night the Polish pontiff who died sang the Te Deum of thanksgiving and not the Requiem of death "because he was convinced that saint died, "he said.
"He gave dignity to death, died as a Christian ought to die," he added.
